The SPIA index is now showing some additional details on the storms. The 13 computers models we track are now coming together and clearly showing the following.

A HIGH likelihood of at least a quarter to a half inch of ice accumulation over much of the Tulsa NWS coverage area in eastern Oklahoma and northwestern Arkansas.  The heaviest ice accumulation potential still appears to be about 50 to 60 miles either side of a line extending from Rogers, AR, to Stilwell, OK, to Wagoner, to Okmulgee, to Shawnee.  Within this corridor, which is just south of I-44 but north of I-40, ice accumulation amounts are predicted to be in the 0.40” to 0.55” range, with the possibility of a ‘worst case scenario’ being that ice accumulations could be from 0.75” to 1.25” in some areas of that corridor on Thursday.

Winds will gradually shift to the north and northeast during the event, and sustained winds are forecast to be in the 20 to 25 mph range, with gusts to 35-40 mph.  Following the ice, some locally heavy snowfall is expected, from 4 to 8 inches over much of central Oklahoma, with parts of northeastern Oklahoma projected to get anywhere from 6 to 10 inches of snow. Blowing and drifting snow will make travel extremely difficult.

The heavier icing line for the western two-thirds of Oklahoma would extend about 50 to 60 miles either side of a line from  Mangum to Hobart to Carnegie to Oklahoma City.  Ice accumulations in that 100 to 120 mile wide corridor could be anywhere from 0.30” to 0.50” with the ‘worst case scenario’ being ice accumulations of from 0.50” up to 1.0”.  Again, winds are projected to be in the 20 to 25 mph range, with gusts in the 35 to 40 range.

We can expect to see potentially heavy ice damage here in Oklahoma.

Opinion Leadership: The Key to Communication, Marketing and Change Integration for the Next Decade.

December 29th, 2009

This article may seem a little technical at first.  However, I recommend this content as a key to understanding communication, marketing and change integration over the next 3-10 years….DTB

Opinion leadership

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jump to: navigation, search

Opinion leadership is a concept that arose out of the theory of two-step flow of communication propounded by Paul Lazarsfeld and Elihu Katz. This theory is one of several models that try to explain the diffusion of innovations, ideas, or commercial products.

The opinion leader is the agent who is an active media user and who interprets the meaning of media messages or content for lower-end media users. Typically the opinion leader is held in high esteem by those that accept his or her opinions. Opinion leadership tends to be subject specific, that is, a person that is an opinion leader in one field may be a follower in another field. An example of an opinion leader in the field of computer technology, might be a neighborhood computer service technician. The technician has access to far more information on this topic than the average consumer and has the requisite background to understand the information, though the same person might be a follower at another field (for example sports) and ask others for advice.

Key opinion leaders (KOLs) are physicians who influence their peers’ medical practice, including but not limited to prescribing behavior. Pharmaceutical companies generally engage key opinion leaders early in the drug development process to provide advocacy activity and key marketing feedback [1]. Key opinion leaders generally belong to a specific area of expertise, such as oncology, cardiology, diabetes, or sometimes do specialized work in very niched therapeutic areas such as Colorectal Cancer (CRC), Non Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC). Some KOLs also belong to administration, the FDA or EMEA. Pharmaceutical companies engage KOLs in publications, conducting of clinical trials, or conducting marketing research through online panels.

In healthcare quality improvement, KOLs are called physician champions.

A Preliminary Post-Event Picture of Tinker and the Primes 2009

November 23rd, 2009

The Fifth annual Tinker and the Primes National Business Event was held at the Sheraton Midwest City Hotel at the Reed Conference Center November 16th-18th. Preliminary numbers indicate the event attracted an estimated registration of 760 business, military, education and government leaders. More than 420 companies, organizations or units from 39 states and one foreign country (Germany), were represented.

Initial indicators lead event organizers to estimate total participants for the respective days of the event as follows: Monday, 150-200; Tuesday, 450-500 and Wednesday, 250-300. The event featured 80 exhibitors.

According to Event Director David  Burnett “attendance was smaller this year, however, revenue was up and the event produced very real business opportunities for our attendees and exhibitors.”

“When we hear the stories of substantially reduced attendance and even cancellation of other national events, including the cancellation of a somewhat similar event at Warner-Robins, Georgia, we feel very blessed by the support we have received and the results we were able to achieve this year. We truly appreciate the support from the Pentagon, Tinker AFB, our advisory committee, all of our sponsors, the City of Midwest City and participants,” Burnett added.

Plans for 2010 are underway.  Exhibitors are already reserving space for next year’s event.

Organizations capable of providing new “next-level” turn-key sales, marketing, promotion, printing, financial management and event management services were present at the 2009 event for review and consideration purposes.  We will be providing them with additional information and anticipate receiving full proposals by mid-December.

I am attaching a copy of our Preliminary RFP information preliminary-rfp-tinker-and-the-primes-2010-11-09rev. It is not too late for an organization to get in the running for the 2010 contract.

Happy Thanksgiving!
